There are few better ways to end a day in Grand Cayman than watching the sun sink towards the Caribbean Sea. As the sky changes from bright blue to shades of gold, orange and pink, our island takes on an entirely different atmosphere.
If you’re wondering where to watch sunset in Grand Cayman, the answer starts with the west coast. This is where you’ll find some of our island’s most beautiful viewpoints, including the famous Seven Mile Beach. You can simply settle on the sand, enjoy dinner with a sea view, or take to the water for a sunset sail, which is one of our popular evening tours in Grand Cayman.
Ready to find out more? Here are some of our favourite ways to enjoy a Grand Cayman sunset.

Where Does the Sun Set in Grand Cayman?
Grand Cayman faces west towards the Caribbean Sea, so the western side of our island is naturally one of the best places to watch the sun disappear over the horizon.
That makes Seven Mile Beach an obvious choice. The long, west-facing beach offers uninterrupted views across the water and is easy to reach from many of our island’s hotels and resorts. In fact, you may even find you have an incredible westward view from your hotel room!
The best part is that you don’t have to make sunset a separate activity. You can spend the afternoon swimming or enjoying one of the many beach activities in Grand Cayman, then simply stay on to watch the sky light up.

Seven Mile Beach: The Classic Grand Cayman Sunset
If you’re looking for the best sunset in Grand Cayman from land, it’s hard to go wrong with Seven Mile Beach. The soft white sand, calm turquoise water, and wide-open view over the Caribbean Sea make an ideal setting for sunset. Find a quiet spot on the beach, take a stroll along the shoreline or settle down with a drink and watch the colours change as daylight fades.
Late afternoon is also a lovely time to be on Seven Mile Beach. The strongest heat of the day has passed, making it more comfortable for a swim or a walk before sunset.
And when you’re ready for something more adventurous, Red Sail Sports has plenty of ways to enjoy the water. From paddleboards and kayaks to sailing and snorkelling, you can turn your afternoon at the beach into a full day of fun.

See the Sunset From the Water on a Sunset Sail in Grand Cayman
There’s something special about watching a sunset from the water. Instead of simply looking toward the horizon, you’re surrounded by the calm waters of the Caribbean Sea as the sun begins its final descent.
Our Sunset Sail from Seven Mile Beach is designed specifically for this experience. You’ll board a 65-foot luxury catamaran and sail along the picturesque Seven Mile Beach as golden hour begins. We serve complimentary light snacks during the trip, while you can also purchase refreshments from the licensed onboard bar.
The trip lasts two hours, with departure times changing seasonally to coincide with sunset. It currently operates Monday to Saturday, with guest pickup available from Seafire and Westin Beach and on Wednesdays we offer a pick-up from the Ritz Carlton Beach. But please note that there’s no Seafire departure on Wednesdays.
For many visitors, this is the ultimate Grand Cayman sunset cruise: a relaxed evening on the water, a gentle Caribbean breeze, and an unobstructed view as the sun disappears from sight.

Combine a Grand Cayman Sunset With Dinner
Are you picturing eating a delicious meal to accompany your sunset? If you prefer waterfront dining over spending the evening on the beach, the west coast has plenty of restaurants where you can combine Caribbean scenery with dinner and drinks.
But you can take things even further by making your meal part of a luxury catamaran sailing trip. Red Sail Sports’ Evening Catamaran Tour includes an evening sail along Seven Mile Beach with dinner served onboard.
Our guests choose from:
- Two appetisers: Tomato Soup or Fishcake.
- Three entrées: Fish Tacos, Baby Back Ribs, Jerk Chicken, or a Vegetarian option.
And the delicious dessert is warm sticky toffee pudding. This unique experience gives you the chance to enjoy the changing colours of the sky before settling into a meal prepared by one of our highly skilled chefs.
Our Seven Mile Beach dinner cruise is popular with a wide range of guests, but it’s especially loved by couples or anyone celebrating a special occasion.

Enjoy a Sunset Drink on Seven Mile Beach
For a more casual experience, find a beachfront bar or restaurant and enjoy a drink as the sun goes down. Sometimes, a simple solution works best, especially as you’ll likely have multiple evenings to make grander plans. A comfortable seat, a cool drink, and a clear view of the Caribbean can be all you need.
The western side of Grand Cayman has plenty of places where you can make an afternoon on the beach flow naturally into an evening out. It’s one of the reasons why Seven Mile Beach remains such a popular base for visitors.

Can You Watch the Sunset From Rum Point?
Rum Point is on the North Side rather than Grand Cayman’s west coast, so it isn’t the first place we’d recommend if your sole aim is to watch the sun set directly over the western horizon. However, if you’re staying on the North Side or spending the day around Rum Point, you don’t need to head across the island to enjoy an evening on the water.
Red Sail Sports also offers a Sunset Sailing Trip from Rum Point, giving visitors the chance to enjoy the evening from the North Sound. It’s a fantastic option for anyone who wants to combine a day around Rum Point with a relaxed boat trip.

What Time Does the Sun Set in Grand Cayman?
Naturally, the sunset time changes throughout the year, so it’s worth checking the local time for your exact date. This is particularly important if you’re planning to watch the sunset from the beach independently. If you’re booking a dedicated sunset experience such as those we provide, the departure time is planned around the seasonal change.
For example, our Seven Mile Beach sunset sail currently runs for two hours, and the departure time varies from 5 PM to 5:30 PM, depending on the time of year. Arriving a little early is always a good idea. That way, you aren’t rushing to find your spot just as the sky begins to change.

What Can You Do After Sunset in Grand Cayman?
