At Red Sail Sports, we believe it is important to play an active role in the community and to set a good example for future generations. That’s why we provide education and on-the-job training for local children through a variety of programs. In addition, we support both the Special Olympics Cayman Islands and the Lighthouse School for children with special educational needs.
While we lead from the front with our Grand Cayman scuba diving trips and boat excursions, we also ensure that we play a key role in supporting and promoting important causes and events in the place we call home. Scroll down to find out more — and please contact us if you have any questions.
Red Sail Sports and the Red Sail Group are proud supporters of the Cayman Islands Special Olympics. We are a longtime advocate of the non-profit sports training program which caters to athletes with intellectual disabilities from 8eight years of age onwards.
In fact, one of Red Sail Sports’ own employees is none other than Andrew Smiley, who won gold in both the 200-meter individual medley and the 400-meter freestyle at the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games. Four years later, Andrew brought home gold again, winning the 1.5-kilometre open water swim at the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Greece.
The Red Sail Group, an affiliation of companies, continues to give financial assistance to support the Special Olympics Cayman Islands, otherwise known as SOCI, and their athletes. The donations help support SOCI with its mission to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults.
The Lighthouse School is committed to helping students with challenging needs to develop their unique abilities to their fullest potential through individualised and innovative programmes. These are implemented by a caring and professional staff in a dynamic partnership with parents and the community.
Red Sail Sports, part of the Red Sail Group has donated uniforms and prizes, funds to help buy school supplies, and sponsored school lunches as well as sponsoring students to attend overseas trips. Red Sail Sports also offers work experience and employment opportunities to graduating students where possible.
Red Sail Sports is proud to support Plastic-Free Cayman, a non-profit organisation committed to education, awareness, and action to help reduce single-use plastics in the Cayman Islands. Red Sail Sports and Plastic-Free Cayman have partnered together to organise monthly beach clean-ups throughout the Cayman Islands, as well as looking for opportunities to reduce or eliminate single-use plastics throughout our operations.
Red Sail Sports gladly donates dive boats and crew for island clean-ups as part of Earth Day initiatives. We also participate in the Department of Environment’s annual Reef Watch Survey which is conducted around Earth Day.
Red Sail Sports remains committed to our local schools and students and will once again welcome students on work experience and apprenticeships for the upcoming school year. Two of the larger programs we are involved with are CIFEC and SHS.
During the first semester, all students will rotate with many local employers within the tourism/hospitality industry, including Red Sail. In the second semester, students will be matched with employers for apprenticeships.
The goal of all of the school programs is to increase awareness and encourage our young Caymanians to consider a career in tourism.
Along with the Cayman Islands National Trust’s mission “To preserve natural environments and places of historic significance in the Cayman Islands for present and future generations”, Red Sail Sports understands it is everyone’s responsibility to protect and preserve our heritage and assists the National Trust for the Cayman Islands wherever possible.
Through active involvement with CITA, Red Sail Sports strives to maintain and exceed dive and watersports industry standards in the Cayman Islands.
Red Sail Sports plays an active role in promoting the Cayman Islands by attending industry trade shows, hosting visiting journalists on our dive and snorkel trips, and speaking at Travel Agent orientations.
