Grand Cayman is a world-famous diving destination, celebrated for its crystal-clear waters, sheer walls, and thriving marine life. Our island is home to more than 200 dive sites, including the renowned USS Kittiwake wreck and The Mermaid. And while the biggest names draw well-deserved attention, Grand Cayman is brimming with lesser-known sites that offer equally breathtaking underwater experiences.
At Red Sail Sports, our Grand Cayman scuba diving trips showcase the very best our underwater world has to offer. But in this blog, we focus on our island’s hidden gems — the incredible dive sites you may not be so familiar with.

Turtle Reef, West Bay (AKA Macabuca)
A shore dive with effortless access, Turtle Reef is one of Grand Cayman’s best-kept secrets. Located beside Macabuca, a laid-back tiki bar popular with divers, this site features a mini wall teeming with marine life. A sandy plateau leads to the reef, and you may spot squid in the shallow water here. Around 100 meters from the shore, a buoy marks the dive site. This is where the small wall descends sharply to a depth of 18 metres.
The drop-off leads to a labyrinth of coral formations, home to turtles, moray eels, eagle rays, and the occasional reef shark. With little to no current, this is an ideal site for divers of all levels to enjoy a relaxed yet rewarding dive. But please note that this area has plenty of boat traffic, so we recommend using a surface buoy.
When you’re done, Macabuca’s famous jerk chicken is the perfect way to end the day. And if you’re hungry for more tasty local bites, we think you’ll love our blog What is the Best Food to Try When Visiting the Cayman Islands?

Orange Canyon, West Bay
For those drawn to dramatic topography, Orange Canyon is a must-dive. Situated along the West Bay Wall, this site boasts striking coral pinnacles covered in large orange elephant ear sponges, from which the canyon takes its name. This dive starts at a mooring ball where you descend into the blue through a canyon. You then emerge on the wall at around 100 feet, or 30 metres.
As you move along the wall, you might spot large pelagic creatures like spotted eagle rays and sharks. But it’s on top of the wall where you can take in the sight of the various coral and sponges, as well as the smaller marine animals — like eels and turtles — that call this site home.
Due to its depth and occasional currents, this site is best suited to intermediate and advanced divers. And for the ultimate endorsement, Orange Canyon features in the picks for our dive instructors’ favourite dive sites in Grand Cayman.

Ghost Mountain, West Bay
A truly unique site accessible by boat, Ghost Mountain is an underwater pinnacle that rises from the depths like an eerie, mist-shrouded peak. This isolated seamount tops out at 60 feet and is covered in a vibrant mix of hard and soft corals, attracting everything from tiny critters to passing pelagics. You may find yourself surrounded by schools of horse-eye jacks or even spot a curious reef shark circling in the distance.
The site’s deep profile and occasional strong currents make it ideal for experienced divers seeking a thrilling and less-visited spot.

Julie’s Wall, East End
Over on the East End, Julie’s Wall is a stunning dive site that often flies under the radar. Named after a local nurse who used to dive here, it is renowned for its lush coral coverage, excellent visibility, and gently sloping wall dotted with gorgonians, sea fans, and sponges. You also have the rare opportunity to swim beneath an overhanging wall, something you can only do here and at Breaker’s Cutback.
Due to the overhang and the reduced light that it creates, Julie’s Wall offers the ideal habitat to support large, vibrant sponges that typically grow in much deeper water. Marine life is abundant here, so you can expect to encounter anything from pufferfish and parrotfish to eagle rays and reef sharks.
The East End’s remote and unspoiled nature makes this a dive worth the journey — and our sister company Tortuga Divers is ready to help with all your diving needs on the East Coast!

Tarpon Alley, North Side
Names can be deceiving, especially when animals in their natural habitat are concerned! The huge tarpon that used to populate Tarpon Alley are no longer resident… but who knows, maybe they will come back one day!
Even though the fish that lend this site its name have moved on for now, there is still plenty of other marine life to marvel at. At Red Sail Sports, we visit this spot to observe the majestic reef sharks that call this place home. The sandy bottom and scattered coral heads also provide a habitat for nurse sharks, garden eels, and southern stingrays. Tarpon Alley’s relatively shallow depth and gentle conditions make it accessible to divers of all levels.

Eden Rock & Devil’s Grotto, George Town
Located just a short swim from shore in George Town, Eden Rock and Devil’s Grotto are two interconnected sites offering some of the best cavern diving in Grand Cayman. Large, sponge-encrusted swim-throughs weave through the reef, providing the perfect setting for dramatic light rays to filter through.
Eden Rock has blooming coral reefs rising from the deep, with formations cut through with tempting tunnels and caves. Right beside it, Devil’s Grotto offers divers another intriguing cave and tunnel network that is a thrill to explore.
During the summer months, the caverns here become a hotspot for silversides, creating dazzling bait-ball formations that attract groupers, tarpon, and even the occasional barracuda. This site is fantastic for photographers and anyone who wants to explore the intricate underwater wonders in the Cayman Islands.
