Grand Cayman is a year-round destination, but the best time to visit depends on your travel style and preferences. December to April is peak season, bringing sunny skies, calm seas, and ideal diving conditions. This is also the most popular time to travel, so be sure to book accommodation, activities, and excursions early.
If you prefer a quieter experience, the summer and early fall months offer fewer crowds and lower rates. The water is warm, marine life is active, and visibility for diving remains excellent. Just be mindful of hurricane season, which runs from June to November. However, our location in the western Caribbean makes severe storms a rare occurrence.
For more seasonal tips, check out our blog What Time of Year is it Best to Visit Grand Cayman? But to get you started, here’s a quick season-by-season climate breakdown to help with planning:
Winter (December – February)
Spring (March – May)
Summer (June – August)
Autumn (September – November)
Your ideal location depends on your vacation style. If you want to be in the heart of the action, Seven Mile Beach is the top choice. It offers luxury resorts, casual beachfront hotels, and easy access to our dive shops and Grand Cayman watersports and beach activities. Many of our highly popular boat excursions in Grand Cayman depart from Seven Mile Beach and Safehaven Marina, too. Plus, you’re steps from some of the best dining and nightlife on the island!
If all this sounds ideal to you, we think you will love reading our Ultimate Guide to Seven Mile Beach in Grand Cayman.
For a more laid-back vibe, Rum Point and the East End deliver seclusion, quiet beaches, Caribbean charm, and excellent access to uncrowded dive and snorkel sites. These areas are perfect for travellers looking to unwind and explore hidden corners of our island.
If you’d like to take a deeper dive into this topic, read our blog What Part of Grand Cayman Should You Stay In? when you have finished here. We look at the pros and cons of our island’s most popular districts to help narrow down your options. For more specific accommodation advice, don’t miss our picks for highly recommended hotels in Grand Cayman.
Renting a car is the most convenient way to explore our island, especially if you plan to venture to Rum Point or the East End. Having the freedom to hit the open road offers an unparalleled level of flexibility and plenty of room for spontaneous adventures. Just remember, driving is on the left!
Taxis are readily available but can be pricey for longer trips. Public minibuses run set routes connecting all districts of our island. The convenience of the bus system in Grand Cayman is that you don’t need to be at a stop on the route to catch one.
If you see the bus you want passing by, the driver will pull over if you flag them down. Likewise, when you want to get off, simply let the driver know and they will stop at the next convenient point.
Needless to say, you are still bound by the bus schedule, so this option has its limitations and will eat into more of your vacation time when compared with car rental.
For trips on the water, Red Sail Sports offers Grand Cayman boat tours that make getting around part of the fun. We cover everything from gorgeous sunset sails to the iconic Stingray City, but more on that below!
Will you be visiting on a cruise ship? The good news is that your vessel will dock in George Town, which is only a short taxi ride from Seven Mile Beach. And once you’re there, you’ll find a whole host of incredible activities and experiences within walking distance.

If there’s one experience every visitor should have when visiting Grand Cayman, it’s Stingray City. Located where the North Sound — a shallow bay with beautiful turquoise water — meets the Caribbean Sea, this world-famous sandbar is home to a friendly group of southern stingrays.
Over the years, these creatures have become accustomed to humans, so it’s perfectly safe to get in the water and play with them. The guides on our Stingray City Grand Cayman tours provide full safety briefings before anyone gets in the sea. By following this guidance and following a common-sense approach, you’ll have an incredible time. The stingrays are so at ease with human visitors that they will almost certainly approach you first!
In the water, the stingrays will let you pet and hold them. If you’re feeling especially brave, you can even kiss one for seven years of good luck! But it’s only natural to have some safety concerns. We recommend reading our blog Can the Stingrays at Stingray City Sting You? for extra peace of mind.
And when you have finished there, head to our Ultimate Guide to Stingray City for even more information about this one-of-a-kind Grand Cayman experience.

Beyond the tourist hotspots, Grand Cayman hides a wealth of incredible local experiences rich in authentic Caribbean character. If you want to get off the beaten path, look no further than the East End and Rum Point.
The East End is a large district covering the entire eastern side of our island. As it’s on the opposite coastline from Seven Mile Beach and George Town, it’s quieter, less developed, and has a more local feel.
Our sister company, Tortuga Divers, provides beach activities, watersports, and diving trips in the East End, allowing you to discover some of Grand Cayman’s best and most undisturbed dive sites.
Just some of the local secrets and hidden gems you can find in the East End include:
The Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park also straddles the boundary between the East End and North Side. This beautiful sanctuary offers a unique opportunity to see rare blue iguanas and so much more!
Rum Point is in the North Side district, on the other side of the North Sound from West Bay and Seven Mile Beach. Like the East End, it’s all about a slower pace of living and authentic Caribbean experiences. Rum Point Club is the perfect place to stop for tasty food and drinks, but they also provide beach activities and watersports. With Rum Point Dock mere steps away, numerous boat excursions depart from here too, including Stingray City trips and sunset sails.
Our blog about the top things to do in Rum Point offers a great insight into what you can expect from a visit to this corner of Grand Cayman. And only a short drive from Rum Point, you will find two spots that are always worth making time for — Starfish Point and Cayman Crystal Caves.
Starfish Point is home to, you guessed it, a colony of red and orange starfish! We love this spot so much that we included it in our North Sound Eco-Safari. The Cayman Crystal Caves consist of three spectacular underground caves with an environment famous for its stalactites, stalagmites, and wonderfully clear pools. If this sounds like your kind of place, don’t miss our tips for must-know things when visiting the Cayman Crystal Caves.
Planning to drive to one or both of these off-the-beaten-path gems? From Seven Mile Beach to Rum Point, it takes around 50 minutes to one hour. It’s roughly the same driving time from Seven Mile Beach to Morritts Resort on the east coast.
It’s easy to fill your days with adventure in Grand Cayman, but the key to a perfect itinerary is balance. For every physically demanding or adrenaline-pumping activity, add a slower-paced, more relaxing experience. For example, if you dive or snorkel in the morning, enjoy a long beachside lunch and a chilled afternoon paddleboarding or sailing. Of course, you can always just kick back and relax on one of the best beaches in Grand Cayman.
We strongly recommend embracing Caymanian cuisine as much as possible during your time here. Our island has some exceptional local and international restaurants that cater to all tastes, from mouthwatering jerk chicken to exquisite fine dining. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to packing the perfect suitcase for Grand Cayman. But while everyone will have their own needs and preferences, there are some basic rules you can follow to ensure you stay comfortable while here.
Light, breathable clothing is best (think linen and flowy garments), along with plenty of swimwear. Quick-drying clothing and towels are also a great idea if you’re planning on spending plenty of time in and around the water.
Reef-safe sunscreen is a must to protect our fragile marine environment. Water shoes, a rash guard, and a dry bag are helpful for excursions. While we provide all necessary gear for watersports and diving, you’re welcome to bring your own mask and snorkel for comfort.
Don’t forget a reusable water bottle and a good book for beach days! You can buy other essentials like a sunhat and sunscreen when you’re here.
