WESTIN GRAND CAYMAN SEVEN MILE BEACH RESORT & SPA

Seven Mile Beach: Grand Cayman’s Most Famous Beach!

As Grand Cayman’s most famous stretch of sand, Seven Mile Beach is a must-visit for families. Along with its stunning scenery, this award-winning beach is known for its calm, shallow waters — perfect for young children to splash around safely. The soft, sandy seabed means no worries about sharp rocks, making it ideal for barefoot adventures.

Seven Mile Beach is broken up into numerous different sections, but two worthy mentions are Public Beach and Governor’s Beach. At Public Beach, you’ll find playground equipment, volleyball tournaments, and beach chair and umbrella rentals. On the other hand, Governor’s Beach is tailor-made for lazing around and enjoying not doing much at all!

You will also experience Seven Mile Beach differently if you stay in a beachside resort or hotel. After all, having immediate access to this breathtaking place, as well as nearby outstanding facilities and Red Sail Sports locations is a truly unique opportunity. Read our blog What are Some Highly Recommended Hotels in Grand Cayman? to find out more about some of Seven Mile Beach’s best accommodation options.

Seven Mile Beach Amenities: Seven Mile Beach has been a magnet for visitors for decades now, so the beach and surrounding area are well-equipped with everything you could need. There are outside showers to freshen up on public beaches, along with loungers and beach chair rentals. Restrooms are available at restaurants along the beach for those dining at the establishment. In fact, various restaurants line many sections of the beach, so it’s always easy to access food, drinks, and shaded areas.

Shade at Seven Mile Beach: Natural shade on the beach itself is limited, so bringing an umbrella or finding a spot near a beachfront resort is a good idea. Some hotels and resorts also offer beach cabana rentals for the ultimate comfort and convenience.

Food and Drink at Seven Mile Beach: From casual beach bars to fine dining, Seven Mile Beach has plenty of options for every palate. Be sure to read our picks for the best local Caribbean restaurants in Grand Cayman for an introduction to our island’s food scene!

Seven Mile Beach Safety: The calm, clear, and shallow waters here make it one of the safest spots for swimming in Grand Cayman.

Beach Bash at Rum Point

Rum Point Beach: Easygoing Vibes on the North Side

Rum Point is a family favourite thanks to its shallow waters, laid-back atmosphere, and abundance of shade from swaying casuarina and palm trees. Located on the island’s quieter north side, it’s a great escape from the busier tourist spots on the west coast.

Family vacations are often about ticking multiple boxes that don’t exactly align! Luckily, Rum Point has something for everyone. You can find all the Rum Point beach activities you need at Rum Point Club, including kayak and Waverunner rentals. The snorkelling and swimming are great here and there are ample opportunities to kick back, relax, and enjoy a lazy afternoon with a perfectly mixed Mudslide.

Rum Point Amenities: The beach offers changing facilities, a public restroom, indoor showering, picnic tables, and hammocks. And if you don’t want to disconnect completely, there’s free Wi-Fi too!

Shade at Rum Point: You can find plenty of natural shade under the trees that line the beach, making it a comfortable spot for families with younger children.

Food and Drink at Rum Point: The Rum Point Club offers delicious Caribbean-inspired dishes with gorgeous ocean views and an authentic, laid-back island vibe. Whether you opt for the Solis restaurant or The Rum Deck, you won’t be disappointed!

Rum Point Safety: The shallow, clear waters make this beach very child-friendly. Keep an eye out for stingrays, as they sometimes swim close to shore — an exciting sight for older kids! But as with all wildlife sightings, keep your distance and do not touch or feed them.

Read our Guide to Rum Point, Cayman Islands to discover even more about this charming spot on the north coast.

Starfish Point: Say Hello to the Stars of the Ocean!

For a truly magical moment, head to Starfish Point, a secluded beach where you can see (but not disturb) the famous red starfish that rest in the shallow waters. This quiet beach offers a unique and safe educational experience that children love. And best of all, Starfish Point is only a five-minute drive from Rum Point Club, so you can easily combine the two.

If you can’t make it across to Rum Point during your trip, you can still visit Starfish Point on our Grand Cayman North Sound Eco-Safari. Departing from Camana Bay, this three-stop tour also includes a trip to the iconic Stingray City Sandbar and snorkelling at a coral reef.

Starfish Point Amenities: While there are public restrooms and a rinse station here, there’s little else, so plan accordingly. This is typically not a long experience, and with the proximity to Rum Point, the lack of amenities is rarely an issue.

Shade at Starfish Point: Some natural shade is available under trees on the shoreline, but bringing extra sun protection is recommended if you play to stay for a while.

Food and Drink at Starfish Point: There are no restaurants on-site, so pack a picnic or head to Rum Point Club for fresh seafood, local and international dishes, and refreshing drinks.

Starfish Point Safety: The water here is very shallow and calm, making it a safe spot for young children to learn about the marine environment. However, remind kids not to pick up the starfish, as they need to stay submerged to survive.

Spotts Beach: A Hidden Gem on the South Coast

If your family wants to experience snorkelling with sea turtles, Spotts Beach is the place to go. These majestic creatures tend to congregate here to feed on the seagrass, particularly during the early mornings and late in the afternoon. And generally speaking, the inviting azure water here is ideal for snorkelling and swimming, although some experience with both is advisable due to the current and sometimes choppy conditions.

This lesser-known gem on the south coast is a great alternative to busier beaches and offers a more natural setting. You’re more likely to encounter locals than tourists!

We love Spotts Beach so much that we even recommended it in our blog Where are the Best Beaches in Grand Cayman?, the perfect companion piece to this guide.

Spotts Beach Amenities: There are limited facilities, but there is a portaloo and some picnic tables and cabanas provide a spot to relax.

Shade at Spotts Beach: Plenty of natural shade is available from the trees along the shore.

Food and Drink at Spotts Beach: There are no on-site food vendors, so bring snacks and drinks or a picnic if you plan to make a day of it.

Spotts Beach Safety: The water here can be a bit choppy with a strong current, so this beach is better suited for families with older children who are comfortable swimmers. Snorkellers should stay close to the shore and be mindful of boat traffic.

If you plan to make snorkelling a key part of your trip, we recommend making our blog Grand Cayman Snorkelling Tips from Local Experts your next read!

Smith Barcadere (Smith Cove): A True Slice of Paradise

A favourite among locals, Smith Barcadere (also known as Smith Cove) is a picturesque, small cove with calm waters and great snorkelling. In fact, many people claim that this is Grand Cayman’s prettiest cove! Whether you agree or not, it’s definitely one of the most photographed — and when you arrive you’ll want to take plenty of shots yourself.

Smith Cove offers the perfect blend of beach relaxation and underwater exploration. Novice snorkellers find experiences here especially rewarding as the calm, shallow water is home to abundant exotic marine life.

Smith Cove Amenities: Public restrooms, showers, and picnic tables make this a convenient beach for families.

Shade at Smith Cove: There’s plenty of natural shade beneath surrounding trees, making this beach a comfortable spot even during peak sun hours.

Food and Drink at Smith Cove: You won’t find any food vendors directly on the beach, but George Town, the capital of the Cayman Islands, is only a short drive away. You will find all manner of great restaurants here. Check out our Grand Cayman Culinary Guide and learn about the delicious dishes waiting for you!

Safety: The cove’s shallow entry makes it safe for kids, though some rocky areas require water shoes for extra comfort. Snorkellers will enjoy spotting colourful fish just a few feet from shore.
